Kumiko 組子 II

Kumiko 組子 II - Old Rosewood

This shelf is a home for beautiful objects. The Japanese Kumiko technique is used to produce the translucent walls in the shelf. They add a transparency and interaction between the objects placed in the delicate rooms of this miniature Japanese house. My aim with this version is to take the Kumiko technique, that is mostly two dimensional and place it in a three dimensional context. The Kumiko transforms from decorative panels into structural parts.
These two unique pieces were commissioned in some old salvaged Rosewood planks, that were imported to EU in the 1950's and was donated to me some years ago.
